What is .travel?

.travel is an Internet domain specifically for the travel and tourism industry.  Travel businesses and organizations can use .travel for e-commerce and promotion of their products and services with a .travel website, blog, and email.

Background of .travel

On May 5, 2005, Tralliance signed a contract with ICANN to operate the .travel Top Level Domain (TLD), which is exclusively reserved for the travel industry.  The .travel Registry’s operating procedures and policies for the .travel TLD differentiate it from all other TLDs on the Internet, and offer unique value to the travel industry and its consumers.

Any participant in the travel and tourism industry can own a .travel domain name.  The only requirement is that a website with content relevant to the domain name must be up within one year of registration. The .travel Registry conducts audits to ensure continued compliance.

Since its launch thousands of travel companies and key industry players have adopted .travel and are promoting their travel businesses, products, and destinations.  Some examples include:  Canada.travel, Egypt.travel, Cancun.travel, Argentina.travel, Philadelphia.travel, Poland.travel, TIAC.travel, ClimateSolutions.travel, ReduceMyFootprint.travel, Earthlung.travel, EXPOTUR.travel, rendezvous.travel, and many more.

Who manages .travel?

Tralliance, the .travel Registry, develops products and services to promote the efficiencies and convenience of e-commerce for travel and tourism companies on the Internet.  Designed to serve the global travel and tourism community, the major aims of the .travel sponsored Top Level Domain (sTLD) are improved Internet identity, creation of advanced distribution channels, and the establishment of a strong trust factor between the industry and its customers.
Supported by all tourism and travel associations (UNWTO, WTTC, PATA, ASTA, UFTAA, ETOA, IH&RA, CLIA, NBTA, SKAL) and many others, it provides a reference point for the consumers.
